Kelso Pressure Relief Valve Selected by Tank Car Builder

Monday, February 13, 2012

We are pleased to announce that a major tank car builder has selected the external high-flow KELSO JS75H constant-force spring pressure relief valve as standard on 30,500 gallon tank cars built with a top fitting protection housing.  These tank cars serve the crude oil and ethanol markets as well as other commodities.  Weekly deliveries of the KELSO JS75H to the tank car builder will commence in April.

KELSO has the only totally external 75 psi pressure relief valve with a flow rate suitable for tank cars in ethanol and crude oil service.  The KELSO JS75H pressure relief valve is rated at 25,600 scfm and has been fitted with a flue to direct the flow from the valve upwards to vent through the top cover of the top fittings protection housing.  The flue is designed to make the valve tamper-resistant for security purposes. The valve and flue are available in carbon steel and 316L stainless steel.

Along with the low cost-of-ownership, there is added value in having all of the pressure relief valve components external to the tank car which virtually eliminates exposure to the commodity and the possibility of failure due to reaction to the commodity.

It is also worth noting that one of the world’s largest petroleum companies has specified the KELSO high flow valves for sour crude service after extensive review and comparison testing.
